Story line
On August 11, 2011, a mysterious object seen meteorites hit the Earth's ocean near some big cities like Tokyo, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Boston, New Orleans, Mexico City, New York City, Hong Kong, Shanghai, London, Manchester, Barcelona, Hamburg, Sydney and Los Angeles. This object is lowered into the spacecraft that contain hostile extraterrestrial forces. U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton arrived in LA to defend against foreign ground forces and assist in the evacuation of civilians in preparation for the bombing campaign. Among the military forces are SSgt. Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart), a 20-year veteran who lost the squad during the last deployment in Iraq. Nantz plans to retire, but he was reassigned menggantikankomandan platoon "E", 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines.

They found the injured alien and Michele, learn from the physiology of aliens', found a weak point in the torso. When the bus was being threatened by foreign aircraft, Nantz realize that they can home in on radio signals and destroy the plane with a lure into a gas station using a walkie-talkie and a hand grenade. Nantz investigate the ruins and found that the plane was unmanned.

A news report speculated that the aliens attack the earth for water supply, which they use as fuel. The team waited for the bombing to begin, but nothing happens; reason behind the bombing began was not revealed at the Santa Monica Airport, FOB was destroyed by aliens.
Nantz decided to try a surveillance area, but was not accompanied by his team. Go underground, Marines confirmed the existence of a large alien ship and return to the surface.
