The Salkinds Donner was fired after the release of Superman, and was assigned as director Richard Lester to complete Superman II. Lester also return for Superman III (1983), and generate further Salkinds 1984 Supergirl spin-off before selling the rights to Cannon Films, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). With more than 15 years of development for the fifth Superman film, Superman Returns, directed by Bryan Singer, released in 2006, along with Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. Following the disappointing financial results Superman Returns, Warner Bros. plans to reboot the film series for release in December 2012. Christopher Nolan will result in a reboot, by David S.
